The Art of GAH!
Garfield of London’s contemporary art ‘The Art of GAH!‘ is driven by his investigation into emotion, memory, self-liberation, and transformation. His intention is that his creations function as an agent of positive behaviour change.
Central to this work is ‘The Symbol of GAH!’ a visual aesthetic signifying – good thoughts – good words – good actions. By creating an interactive dynamic in this work Garfield presents the tradition of symbolism art into a daily practice. This revival of a past tradition is experienced as an act of meditation.
‘The Art of GAH!‘ creates intense personal moments for the viewer by means of conveying dreams and the unconscious with surreal abstraction, luring the viewer round and round towards a sense of personal freedom.
By incorporating in his work the Person Centred psychodynamic model of American psychologist Carl Rodgers, the viewers’ experiences are generated from both personal interpretation and discovered hidden meanings.
[Carl Rodgers (1902 – 1987) one of the founders of the humanistic approach to psychology]
‘The Art of GAH!’ is a combination of conceptual artworks, sculptures, mixed media art, installations, fragrance, meditation, video, and music.

About the artist
Garfield has worked as an artist and talking therapist for several years. Trained in Fashion at the London Institute in 1986, his artistic enquiry led him to Covent Garden where he collaborated with Hip Hop street artists and performers to explore and develop an 80s avant garde London street style aesthetic. Using symbolism as a tool to demonstrate artistic ideas from this time became part of his art practice.
[Sky Magazine, June 4 – June 17, 1987]
Garfield studied Fashion at the London Institute in 1986 before working as a music photojournalist. He later spent 2005 – 2009 working at Chelsea College of Art and Design – Phd. Research Office. He is currently the lead investigator in a GF-AHRG funded research study into ‘The effectiveness of talking therapies in behaviour change’.

The ‘Nerea’ series
. This is from the "Nerea" series and is titled: "Nerea Carrion Sanchis" • In the language of my GAH! FreeToBeYou multi-sensory experience I have created a term called "Nerea". . Nerea = The feeling you get inside that brings a warm smile-laugh to your face. . The intention is that when the viewer comes to focus on the artwork they should 'Focus on the symbol and listen to their breath' while bringing to mind the emotion from a past experience that made them smile-laugh. • . . #TheArtOfGah #Conceptualart #GahFreeToBeYou #mindfulness #meditation #VisualFocusing #VitalBreathing #MovementMeditation #Pleasurenotic #perfume #fragrance #contemporaryart #modernart #love #instagood #smile #happy #iamherenow #dreams #newbeginnings #inspired #joyful #refreshed #renewed #mindset
